Dubai Games 2026 breaks new ground with women’s category and 56-city showdown
Government women teams fight for final four spots
DUBAI – Dubai’s flagship team challenge championship reached new heights on Friday as Dubai Games 2026 introduced the Women’s Battle of the Government and staged its largest-ever Battle of the Cities, drawing record participation and intensifying competition across multiple categories.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the seventh edition continued on Friday at Dubai Festival City.
Day 3 featured one women’s government heat and two city-category heats built around a demanding seven-obstacle course testing endurance, coordination and tactical execution.
Organisers said the competition pace remained high throughout, with teams racing against strict time limits and narrow margins separating qualifiers. The event is held in official partnership with DP World, with diamond partners including DAMAC Properties, Beyond Developments, and Emarat. The multi-stage obstacle format requires teams to combine strength, agility and strategy while operating as a single unit across complex physical tasks.
Battle of the Government
Day 3 opened with the Women’s Battle of the Government heat, where 147 athletes representing 21 local and federal government teams competed for four places in the final round. Each team navigated the full obstacle sequence under timed conditions, with scoring based on speed and performance accuracy.

The Ministry of Defence secured first place with 128.34 points. The Ministry of Education followed with 106.56 points, while the Dubai Health team earned 102.39 points. Dubai Police claimed the fourth qualifying slot with 99.29 points.
Performances across the heat were marked by coordinated movement, tactical decision-making and disciplined teamwork. Organisers highlighted the women’s division as a growing pillar of the tournament, reflecting increased participation and preparedness among government sector athletes.
Battle of the Cities
The Battle of the Cities category recorded its biggest edition since launch, with 56 cities competing in 2026. The international field has expanded steadily over three years, turning the format into a global team challenge platform.

Participating city teams were also offered bonus scoring opportunities through the Burj Challenge staged last week at Burj Khalifa. The vertical race required competitors to climb 160 floors in a combined physical and mental endurance test, with results feeding into their overall tournament standings.
Members of the organising committee said the returning cities and new entrants reflect rising global confidence in the competition structure and delivery standards.
Sponsor voices
Easa Al Gurg, Group CEO of the Al Gurg Group, said the organisation’s backing of the event reflects long-term support for initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing and position sport as part of daily life in Dubai. He described the Games as a community sports platform aligned with the city’s performance-driven culture.
Mohammed Daoud, General Manager at Unilabs Middle East, said the partnership forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts focused on preventive health and active living. He noted that large-scale sporting platforms help drive public engagement with healthier lifestyles.
From the government partner side, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority participates this year as Gold Sponsor. Sports Committee member Manea Alkindi said the sponsorship supports employee wellbeing and encourages broader community participation in sport, while strengthening cooperation between government entities through competitive formats.
Dubai Games 2026
According to organising committee member Aber Al Abdeen, the Battle of the Government remains central to the Games’ long-term impact, encouraging UAE government employees to develop athletic capability and compete at elite team level. She said the women’s category showcases cross-sector achievements and competitive readiness.
Committee member Khadijah Mahrous said the Battle of the Cities demonstrates Dubai’s capacity to deliver world-class competitive formats, including innovative obstacle design and vertical race concepts.
Dubai Games 2026 runs from 12 to 15 February under the slogan “Unite, Ignite, Battle”. Partners include the Dubai Sports Council as strategic partner, alongside venue partner Dubai Festival City, Al-Futtaim Automotive, First Abu Dhabi Bank, du, Red Bull, Mai Dubai, Arabian Radio Network and Dubai Media Incorporated, with operational support from multiple government service entities.
